Value My Stuff Now on Dragons’s Den, what happened next?

Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis invested £100.000 in Value My Stuff Now

Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis invested £100.000 in Value My Stuff Now

Thanks for all the kind comments on the previous blog…

Quite alot of you asked what has happened since recording the programme. Well, the programme was recorded early May, hence already 4 months ago. The site has more than doubled in size since I went into the den and we have done 20.000 valuations in our first year of trading. Our first birthday is today actually! Gosh, I do remember this day last year when I made an old version of the site go live and our first customer came through after an hour from Bournemouth submitting a Doulton vase!

Anyway, since early may, we went through the due diligence process, where the dragons checked all my credentials and the companies books. That whole process went very smooth and contracts were signed over a month ago. Ever since I have to say I have been truly impressed with the level of involvement from Theo & Deborah. We are literally in touch every day, and relate closely about any events that take place or decisions that need to be taken.

At this stage we are just focussing on PR and marketing and won’t make any major changes to the website, which in my opinion is looking good and slick as is. In a month’s time, after the dust has settled after the airing of the programme, we will sit down together and have a proper look as to how and where to move the site forward, exploring new areas.

Over the last 3 weeks I have also been filming the “What Happened After the Den” programme with the BBC which should go out end of October…

All the best and enjoy checking your attics!

Did you watch Dragons’ Den last night? What did you think?

Dragon's Den Value My Stuff Now

Did you watch Dragon’s Den tonight on BBC?

Even though it was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done, I was really delighted with the outcome. It was filmed back in May this year and I stood for more than 2 and a half hours in front of the dragons. Therefore I was quite scrared how it would be edited in tonight’s programme… What do you make of it?

Is the art market immune to the recession?

Art and antiques market

Art & Antiques market immune to recession?

It is quite extraordinary to see how well the art market has performed over the last few months, with numerous records being broken and astonishing results being achieved.

It seems that not only modern and contemporary art seem to do and perform well, but that there is also a great return to the more traditional collecting categories such as silver, furniture and ceramics. In my opinion it is still a very good time to buy good bits of porcelain and furniture, but has a corner been turned and are these market also rising again? It seems to me that in times of recession people revert back to secure values and maybe antiques are seen as wise and sure investments…

What do you think?

Harrods selling Football Memorabilia shirt for £2.3 million!

Hurst Shirt for sale at harrods

Kenneth Wolstenholme’s immortal commentary described the famous moment in English history when Sir Geoff Hurst became the first and only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final. The goals came in England’s epic 4-2 win over West Germany at Wembley in 1966. His original football shirt worn by Sir Geoff Hurst during that match will be exclusively on sale at Harrods for £2 million plus VAT, which would make it the most expensive football shirt to be sold in the world.

To my knowledge the shirt hasn’t been sold yet… Worth the money?

We just valued a Damien Hirst drawing which he made at the back of a London cab!

Value My Stuff Now

We just valued a Damien Hirst Drawing for £2.000-3.000 which he made at the back of a London cab and gave to the taxi driver in early morning hours about a year ago… Cabbie just emailed back to say he was amazed it was worth that much!… Drawing is pretty good actually and depicts a shark…

I have always been amazed that these light sketches can make such a lot of money. Remember the Pharmacy sale which Sotheby’s organised in 2004 where simple ashtrays just signed by Damien sold for hundreds of pounds and scribbled sketches on napkins sold for thousands. It is true to say that in a way these quick drawings do reflect the artist’s mind and creativity wonderfully well, but are they true works of art that are worth such alot of money? What do you think?
